WPS-12 Stainless Steel Wall Coverings: Installation and Maintenance

30th Jun, 2023 by Dennis Chalas

At Protek Systems Inc. one of our most popular wall covering systems is the WPS-12, which features various components such as edge trim, wall panels, and outside corners. This wall-covering system is popular as it requires little maintenance and does not require any special cleaning. The panels used for the system are made of stainless steel, which makes them ideal for use without previous field measuring. To ensure proper installation.

1. Installation Consideration

The surface where the WPS-12 wall covering system is going to be installed must be clean and dry. Any dirt or loose paint can be removed.

  • Before you start installing the wall covering, set a datum line around the area that will be covered. If you're planning on using a wainscot, make sure that the top is level. If you're installing full height you must make sure the vertical edges are plumb.

  • Before installing the wall covering, make sure that the corner is dry fit. If the wall covering is going to be installed at an outside or inside corner, use that as the starting point. If it's going to be installed at a door frame, use that as the base.

  • After reaching the next corner or termination, continue to install wall coverings. If the wall is too short for one panel, you must determine its endpoint and size it. If the wall requires more panels, you can use wall panels that have a built-in 1/2-inch offset. It is recommended to use at least a 1/2 inch overlap between the flat material and the 1/2 inch offset.

  • Before you start cutting the last panel, make sure that the endpoint is the same as the one that you originally planned on. If the excess material is needed, use it on the next wall. It's also recommended to dry-fit all of the panels and corners to ensure that they are aligned properly.

  • To finish the open edges, use an edge bar to seal the butt seams. You can also use clear or colored matched caulk to cover the corners and back of the wall panels. When applying the adhesive, make sure that the beads are spaced around the perimeter edges of the material every 8-12 inches.

  • Using a heavy-pressure roller, press the panels in place and run back and forth across the surface to ensure that the adhesive is firmly attached to the substrate. Allow the adhesive to cure for up to 48 hours. Additional bracing can also be used to prevent the panels from moving once they're in place.

2. Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Unlike other types of metal, stainless steel does not require special cleaning or maintenance. Most products will have a protective outer surface known as a "skin." This should be removed after the installation. To get the best results, use mild soap and water to clean the metal. After washing the surface, use a micro-fiber cloth or towel to remove the dirt. Other types of cleaning agents can also be used to remove tough stains, but be careful with products that contain abrasive components.

Conclusion

It’s easy to see why the WPS-12 wall covering system is one of our most popular systems. With its easy installation, cleaning, and maintenance it’s a no-brainer to use as one of the best and most protective wall-covering systems available.
